THE SLOW CANGGU BALI

Updated: Apr 1

Canggu (the ‘Gu’) is a coastal village on the south coast of the Indonesian island of Bali. It's surrounded by terraced rice paddies and known for its volcanic black sand beaches like Canggu and Echo, with surf ready waves. Gu has a chilled vibe, is slow paced, has plenty of trendy cafes, sunset bars and boutique shopping. Once you arrive, you won’t need to leave until your catch the plane out Bali.

Redefining the hotel experience in Bali and located in Canggu is ‘The Slow’ which we had our eye on for a while and had fair idea on what to expect.

On arrival we were met with a cool refresher towel and welcome drink of infused coconut water with Jasmine. There isn't a dedicated reception area, however it wouldn’t suit the slow. Instead you are welcomed in the impressively raw designed restaurant/ bar area and then taken to your room – ours being one of the retro pool suites.

As we walked into the room we were greeted by LA’s Reverberation Radio station which is a selection of treasured tracks from mood-altering rock to vintage bossa nova. The mini bar area is complete with signature infused drinks and local gourmet snacks. There’s a lot to absorb in the main part of the room, and it's hard to know what to focus on. The moody photography and artwork (which is the owners’ personal collection showcasing pieces by both established and up-and-coming artists from around the globe), the local custom made bed or the plunge pool surrounded by lush foliage.

The ultra-modern bathroom is fashioned with a polished concrete floor, timber ceilings and block walls. There is a walk-in rain shower, long timber vanity bench with above counter sink, and wardrobe with plenty of room to store all your luxuries. Locally made organic bathroom amenities are provided to keep you fresh.

The concept of The Slow encourages guests to expand their understanding of music, art and culture, so don't book your stay expecting various channels and Sky news. You won’t find a TV here. The space is designed to rest your bones, stir your senses, and expand your mind.
