Happy Monday sports fans and welcome to this week’s edition of the Hello Sir Sports Wrap up. On this weeks sports wrap the UC Capitals defeat league leader the Perth Lynx, Canberra United go down 2-0 in a friendly against China and Al Iaquinta beats Kevin Lee for the second time at UFC Milwaukee.
UC CAPITALS 1/1 IN DOUBLE HEADER WEEKEND
While they may have lost to the Adelaide Lighting in the first game of the weekend 93-73, the Capitals have turned it around in the second game of the weekend running out big winners against ladder leaders the Perth Lynx 92-60. The Capitals were in control from the start and going into the first quarter break up 30-10. The Capitals extended their lead in the second quarter scoring 25 points with Leilani Mitchell having a day out against the Lynx with 15 points heading into half time, the Lynx weren’t far behind in the second quarter scoring 22 points. In the third quarter the Lynx out scored the Capitals 14-10 but the Capitals still had a commanding lead 65-46 lead. There was no out scoring the Capitals in the final quarter however as they racked up 27 points to the 14 to run out winners. Kelsey Griffin, who is having a magnificent season, racked up 27 points and 15 rebounds while Leilani Mitchell had a great game with 22 points and 5 rebounds.
CANBERRA UNITED GO DOWN IN FRIENDLY
They may have had a bye in round 7 of the Westfield W-League but Canberra United still took the field last week losing a friendly to China’s national team 2-0. The game was played in Brisbane last Thursday night and gave some players who hadn’t taken the field this season to play against some world-class competition. United are currently sitting in sixth position on the W-League ladder with two wins, two draws and two losses, United’s next game will be on the 22nd of December where they take on Melbourne City in Melbourne. A run down of the China game along with comments from coach Heather Garriock can be found here.
IAQUINTA WINS REMATCH WITH LEE
After losing the first match to Al Iaquinta back 2014, Kevin Lee ultimately fell short in their rematch at UFC Milwaukee on Saturday night (Sunday AESDT) losing via unanimous decision. Both fighters had their moments in the fight, Iaquinta looked to have taken the first round while Lee had rounds two and three sown up as he was able to secure takedowns and get to a dominant position. Round four and five however belonged to Iaquinta, he was landing shots at will and he had Lee on the back foot as he dominated cage position. Unfortunately for Lee this means there will be no chance to avenge this loss with a third fight unlikely.
