Updated: Mar 30

Hello sports and loyal Hello Sir readers, welcome to this weeks Hello Sir sports wrap. On this edition the UC Capitals have a tough road trip, Canberra untied down Sydney FC, Jeff Horn KO’s Anthony Mundine and Junior Dos Santos defeats Tai Tuivasa at UFC Adelaide.

UC CAPITALS LOSE TO LYNX & LIGHTING

The UC Capitals have dropped to third on the ladder after back-to-back losses to league leaders Perth Lynx 88-84 and the Adelaide Lightning 91-83. The first game against the Lynx was a bit of a physical encounter with Kelsey Griffin getting split open by an elbow by Lynx’s Asia Taylor. Kia Nurse was the highest point scorer for the Capitals with 17 followed by Leilani Mitchell on 16 and both Lauren Scherf and Kelsey Griffin on 14.

Coping an elbow against Lynx didn’t keep Kelsey Griffin out of the second game against the Adelaide Lightning scoring 23 points for the Capitals while Lauren Scherf put up 14 points once again. After the losses, the Melbourne Boomers have now moved into second place.

CANBERRA UNITED DOWN SYDNEY FC

After a draw and a loss and a draw, Canberra United have gotten their season back on track with a 2-0 win over Sydney FC on Sunday afternoon. United had some chances early but FC keeper Audrey Bledsoe made a couple of good saves. United broke through with Rhoda Mulaudzi kicking the first goal, chipping the ball over the Keepers head after a United corner in injury time. FC started the second half strongly, Untied keeper Sham Khamis made a brilliant save on Savannah McCaskill, McCaskill then had a second shot at goal only for it to hit the cross bar. Karly Roestbakken scored the game-clinching goal in the 59th minute. The win sees United in equal fourth place with the Brisbane Roar.

HORN ENDS MUNDINE’S CAREER

Jeff ‘The Hornet’ Horn has ended Anthony ‘The Man’ Mundine’s career in 96 seconds in Brisbane last Friday Night. Horn kept Mundine on the back foot and landed some heavy blows. Horn mixed up his punches attacking the head and body before a left hook knocked the 43 year old out. The fight ended Mundine’s 18-year career while Horn’s record moves to 19 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw.

DOS SANTOS END TUIVASA’S UNBEATEN RECORD

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior ‘Cigano’ Dos Santos has given Tui ‘Bam Bam’ Tuivasa his first loss with a second round TKO win in Adelaide at the weekend. The first round saw both fighters land some big shots with Tuivasa cutting off the Octagon and moving forward unafraid of Dos Santos’ power. The second round was Tuivasa’s undoing as he moved forward looking for the knock out blow but was dropped by Dos Santos, who pounced straight away. Tuivasa tried fighting from the bottom but the ref had seen enough and called a stop to the fight.
