WEEKEND SPORTS WRAP UP | 5 NOVEMBER 2018

Happy Monday loyal Hello Sir readers, hope it’s going well so far. The weekend saw the UC capitals get back to the winners circle as well as England defeating New Zealand to take out the Baskerville Shield while Daniel Cormier made short work of Derrick Lewis to retain the UFC Heavyweight title.


CAPITALS DOWN THE FLAME

The UC capitals have improved to 4-1 and sit second on the WNBL ladder with an 84-79 victory in the nations capital yesterday. After being down in 26-21 at the first break, the Capitals rallied in the second quarter scoring 23 points to the Flames 10 for a 44-36 half time lead. The Flames closed the gap in the third scored 23 to the Capitals 20 to be down by five and to make the final quarter a thriller. Though they were snipping at the heels of the Capitals and got within 1 point in the end, it wasn’t to be for the Flames. Kelly Wilson was the Capitals highest scorer with 17 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist while Belinda Snell was the best for the Flames with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 10 assists.


ENGLAND COMES FROM BEHIND TO DOWN KIWIS

The English rugby league side have shown that making the rugby league world cup final was no fluke with a 20-14 win over the New Zealand Kiwis at Anfield over night. England kicked a penalty goal for an early 2-0 lead before Kiwis fullback and captain Dallin Watene-Zelezniak was get across the line for the first try of the game. England winger Tommy Makinson scored the first of his three tries just before half time but Jake Connors was unable to convert leaving the scores 6 all at half time. A break centre field by Watene-Zelezniak set up a try to winger Ken Maumalo to give the Kiwis a 12-6 lead before Shaun Johnson added an extra two points from a penalty goal. The final 25 minutes however would belong to England as Makinson went over for his second try after a lovely backline move. Conner drew the home side level with a penalty goal before Makinson would go over completing his hat-trick, though replays suggest Makinson may have lost the ball.


CANBERRA UNITED DRAW WITH PERTH GLORY


After beating Melbourne City 2-0 in the opening round of the W-League, Canberra United have drawn 4-4 against Perth Glory in the nations capital on Sunday. Glory kicked then first goal through Denise O’Sullivan in the fifth minute before United struck back with a goal to Refiloe Jane two minutes later. Rhoda Mulaudzi gave the home side the lead kicking a goal in the 30th minute. United took a 3-1 lead into half time with Marla Josè Rojas kicking a goal in the 45th minute. Jane kicked her second goal in the 77th minute giving United a 4-1 lead before Glory made their comeback. Goals to Alyssa Muntz

(82nd) And Leticia McKenna (87th) got Glory within a point of the home side before an own goal to United’s Rachel Corsie saw Glory steal the draw.


CORMIER DEFENDS TITLE AT UFC 230


UFC Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier walked into Madison Square Garden as the UFC Heavyweight Champion and he walked out of Madison Square Garden as the Heavyweight Champion after he defeated Derrick Lewis by Submission in the second round of the UFC 230 main event. Heading into the bout Lewis had a punchers chance but unfortunately he wasn’t able to land a knockout blow as Cormier used his wrestling to negate Lewis’ power. The end came in the second round when after getting the takedown Cormier took Lewis’ back and locked up the rear-naked choke for the win.
